Dance Cottage Museum, Ravensthorpe

The Museum and Visitor Centre are situated in the main street of Ravensthorpe, Western Australia, on Highway One and are open seven days a week.

Dance Cottage, built in 1900 by prospector, George Dance, has been faithfully restored to its original form and is furnished to represent an inhabited miner's cottage, the kitchen table set for a meal, toys on the floor in the children's bedroom and clothes laid out on the parents' bed.

The museum also includes mining memorabilia covering the gold, copper and nickel eras, and named geological specimens. An unusual collection of shoes, railway carriages, old jail, farm machinery, prospectors camp and technical and household artefacts, all make up an interesting and comprehensive story of Ravensthorpe's past.

There is a fine example of a preserved mallee fowl and an extensive display of photographs. The museum also offers a research facility for those people seeking information or photographs.
