THE CROW'S NEST

Gnarabup Beach, Margaret River

The Crow's Nest is a substantial, architect designed two storey double brick and cedar residence perched high on the ridge overlooking Gnarabup Beach and the pristine coastline of Western Australia’s south-west.  The house offers spectacular views to all points of the compass, with the main focus being the world famous surf break to the north-west.

Location:  Gnarabup is 11 km west of the town of Margaret River and 1 km south of Prevelly Park.  It is within easy walking distance of safe swimming beaches and the Gnarabup Cafe, which is located 10 metres from the beach.  Margaret River enters the ocean some 1.5 km to the north.  The wineries, restaurants, art galleries, surf beaches and other attractions of the region are just minutes away.

The Residence:  Situated on the highest point of stage 1 of the development, at 53 Baudin Drive.  Accommodation comprises entry lobby, lounge-dining room, kitchen, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two separate toilets, games room, downstairs lobby, separate laundry, expansive timber decks and undercover parking for four vehicles, plus secure boat/trailer parking.  The house is beautifully appointed, with quality fittings, and caters for groups of 10.

Upper floor:  Access to the residence is by a short flight of timber stairs with balustrade of stainless steel and wire to the upstairs entry lobby.  To the left is a passage leading to bedrooms one & two and the south deck, and the main bathroom and toilet.  To the right is the open plan living area with cathedral ceilings to 5.2m, and beyond are views to the ocean.  The floor is of polished marri; the walls are white painted and are hung with art.

The timber dining table seats 10.  There are two three-seater lounges, a cane easy chair and footstool, a coffee table, stereo and television cabinet with television, video and stereo system, and a small cabinet.  Heating is by wood slow combustion stove with glass front, cooling by two overhead fans.  Windows are floor to ceiling, with small square cedar windows offering snatches of view of the national park behind the residence.  The fully equipped kitchen has an electric underbench oven, gas cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with large freezer under, pantry and ample cupboards.  The entire area is dominated by lovely views of the ocean and the rolling hills of the national park.

The large main deck to the north of the lounge/dining area is accessed by large sliding door, and has outdoor timber tables and 10 chairs.  All decks are protected by a laminated glass balustrade which provides a safe and secure play area for small children.  The sound of the surf 500m distant is ever-present.

Bathroom one has a bath and separate shower.  The bush to the east of the house can be seen from the bath through a small cedar window.  Guests love to take a bath while watching the moon rise over the hill.

Bedrooms one & two are large rooms with views of the ocean.  Both rooms are equipped with queen-size beds with electric blankets, bedside cupboards with lamps, built-in robes, overhead fans and an easy chair.  Ceilings are on the rake to 5.2m.  Windows are floor to ceiling, and access to the south deck is by cedar framed glass doors.  Both bedrooms open to the south deck.  The north and south decks are connected by the 2.1m wide west deck.

Ground floor:  A relaxed holiday ambience has been created by the use of easy care terracotta floor tiles and cream sand finished walls.  Scenes of Margaret River are hung on the walls.

The downstairs lobby is a cool area connecting all other ground floor rooms.  There is a large cedar and jarrah sideboard.

Games room:  Immediately to the north of the lobby is the large games room.  On the east and north walls is set three rendered brick lounges divided by square brick “coffee tables”.  The lounges have black corduroy covered foam seats and are ideal for seating.  The room also contains a quality pool table with slate top, television, cane lounge and coffee table.  Windows are floor to ceiling and reveal stunning views of the surf breaks.  Quality art hangs on the walls.

Bedroom three is a large, cool room containing a queen-size bed, bedside cupboards with lamps, built-in robes and an easy chair. It also contains a set of bunks.   Bedroom four contains two single beds that can form a king-size bed, and a built in robe.  Both bedrooms have views to the ocean and all beds have electric blankets.

Bathroom two is a large room containing a generous shower recess and 1.5m vanity.  The laundry contains an automatic washing machine, clothes dryer, ironing board and iron.  Guests may prefer to use the clothes drying area to the south of the house.  An outdoor shower is situated adjacent to the laundry door.
